Not a faster way to use your Mac. A way to stop using it — earned one step at a time, because you should never have to bend in half managing the thing that was supposed to help.
Software that can act on your behalf has existed for a while. What stops anyone leaving it alone is simpler: you cannot tell whether it worked. So you check. And once you are checking every time, you are back at the computer, doing the work plus the supervising.
Zero is built around that problem instead of around the features. Everything it does is designed to give you evidence — until, at some point, you notice you have stopped looking.
You decide when to move. Zero cannot promote itself — the setting lives in a file only a human is allowed to write, and that is enforced in code, not in policy.
Ask for anything. Zero works out the answer, says it in a sentence, and changes nothing at all. Read a week of that. Nothing can break, because nothing is happening.
When it wants to change something, it shows you exactly what — the file, the edit, the command — and waits. Say no and nothing happens. The wait times out into a no, never a yes.
You stopped checking because it kept being right, not because a dialog wore you down. Everything it does is still written down, and one word puts it back to step one.
Every reply below is real output from the build, and every one is backed by an automated check that can fail. The test name is printed under each — if we break the promise, the test goes red before you notice.
Listing this is not modesty. An assistant that overstates itself costs you the thing it exists to build, and you would find out in a week anyway.
$ zero what files are in the scripts folder thinking....................... zero › I have listed the contents of the scripts folder for you. $ zero status Zero is awake — idle mode: shadow (nothing is executed for real)
There is also a menubar app. It shows one light, one sentence, and a box to type in. When Zero isn’t running the light is grey and says so — it will never show you a ready light for something that isn’t there.
Zero lives on your Mac and works there without an account, forever. A name at 0.computer is optional: it only exists so your phone can find your Mac when you're not home.
One command. It makes a local Zero and starts it in shadow mode, where it can only tell you what it would have done.
not published yet the package exists; it goes public with the first release
Pick a name and it becomes yourname.0.computer. Face ID, Touch ID,
or your screen lock is the only password Zero will ever ask for. Then run
zero link on the Mac and approve it from here.
